CAW staff and our all-star painters pose in front of their new mural with representatives from BDO, Gensler and J.T. Magen

BDO New York wanted a mural for the cafe of their new Midtown offices that reflected their culture and values, so they commissioned a site-specific work of art by a team of Creative Art Works (CAW) Youth Apprentices (YAs). CAW assembled an all-star team for this high-profile project. Each YA had worked on another CAW mural project earlier this summer where they demonstrated artistic skills and a high level of professionalism and team spirit.

The Process

The Finished Mural

The cafe is in the “Parks Neighborhood” of the 39th floor, and the theme for this neighborhood is “Thrive Together,” so the mural design features a diversity of lush vegetation found in local parks. Flora includes flowering dogwoods, may apple, butterfly weed, honey locust, red oak, skunk cabbage, and stag horn sumac. A dragonfly, jade beetle, and a red-spotted purple admiral butterfly hide among the flowers. The overall effect is to draw the viewer’s gaze up through the verdant canopy towards the sky.

The mural received a soft-opening on August 30th, which was attended by CAW staff, representatives from BDO, and members of the Gensler design team. Attendees included Real Estate Senior Project Manager at BDO Tracy Fales, National Senior Construction Manager at BDO Courtney Grove, Senior Office Administrator at BDO Wendy Sorrentino, and Brand Design Director for Gensler Carly Papp. Representing CAW were Executive Director Karen Jolicoeur, Board President Brian Ricklin, and Board Member Cary Levy, who is responsible for Strategic Planning and Logistics at J.T. Magen & Company.
