Kibrom Gebremdhin Araya
Teaching Artist
Kibrom is an Ethiopian Artist and Art Educator who lives and works in New York City. As someone who has recently relocated, Kibrom’s work focuses on history, personal and collective memories, and daily social experiences that he observes in his surroundings. He primarily uses painting for his artwork, but he also incorporates drawing and animation.
Kibrom graduated from the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design, Addis Ababa University (AAU) in the Department of Art Education with a BFA in 2006, and went on to complete his MFA there in 2016. After graduation, he worked as a graphic designer and book illustrator for different companies. He also worked as a lecturer at the AAU. Kibrom has participated in various solo and group shows throughout his career. He was a participant in the 6th Center for Contemporary Art Lagos’ Asiko International Art Programme workshop in Addis Ababa in 2016.
