About the Public Art Youth Employment Program

Public Art Youth Employment Programs give teens and young adults apprenticeships and internships creating large-scale public art and multimedia projects. Youth Apprentices are guided by professional teaching artists from the initial concept development through client presentation, to the final edit and public unveiling or premiere. Along the way, they gain tangible employment and life skills such as leadership, teamwork, responsibility and the power of taking initiative. They are empowered by the enduring accomplishment in their work of art and its positive impact on the community.

This summer, Creative Art Works will employ over 120 Youth Apprentices at six worksites.

About our Summer 2025 Worksites

BXP

BXP has commissioned CAW Youth Apprentices to create a large-scale, modular work of art that can be displayed in various buildings in their portfolio.

Kings County Family Court

Youth Apprentices will be painting large-scale art to welcome all visitors to The Court. CAW has a long-standing relationship with Family Courts, but this is our first ever project at Kings County.

PS 192

CAW returns to Hamilton Heights to replace a beloved but badly defaced mural. Spanning half a block and reaching over twenty feet high on one side, this mural will celebrate the diversity of the Jacob Schiff School Campus and the West Harlem community.

Grant Houses

Youth Apprentices are creating a mural for the Cornerstone Center at Grant Houses. This mural will celebrate the people and places that make West Harlem a special place to call home.

New York City Family Court

The NYS Unified Court Office for Justice Initiatives has commissioned CAW Youth Apprentices to create a guidebook for young people visiting Family Court in all five boroughs.

West Harlem Oral History Project

Youth Apprentices are creating an oral history film that will celebrate the West Harlem community and its vibrant arts scene.
