A. Demetrius Felder
Teaching Artist
As a Teaching Artist for Creative Art Works, Demetrius designs and facilitates arts-based learning programs focused on visual storytelling, collaboration, and community engagement. His approach emphasizes creative expression as a vehicle for empowerment and communication, guiding students in developing both technical skills and narrative voice. Through his teaching, he aims to inspire emerging young artists to see their own stories as powerful creative material — bridging personal experience and public expression through art.
Demetrius works concurrently as a Lead Teaching Artist for Groundswell. He is also an accomplished freelance sign and mural painter whose work can be seen throughout New York City. He has collaborated with leading creative production companies, including Colossal and Milestone, contributing to large-scale visual campaigns and public art installations.
As a freelance commercial artist, Demetrius has executed creative campaigns for major brands such as MasterCard, Vans, Adidas, and "Moulin Rouge! The Musical," merging fine art sensibilities with professional design and production standards.
Demetrius maintains a personal art practice. His work is deeply rooted in storytelling and the visual narrative tradition. His artistic practice spans from comic and children’s book illustration to large-scale commercial and mural projects. He is a 2001 Snug Harbor Grant Recipient. He was featured in the Bronx Brewery Up & Coming Artist Series in 2018. He was granted a Groundswell Artist Residency in 2019.
Demetrius holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design with a minor in computer communications from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Born and raised in the Bronx, Felder is a U.S. Army veteran now living and working in Brooklyn, New York.
