Alison Martinez

Teaching Artist Assistant-in-Training

Alison is returning to Creative Art Works as a Teaching Artist Assistant-in-Training after recently graduating from SUNY Binghamton with a Bachelor of Arts in English, and a minor in Latin American and Caribbean Area Studies. She has a passion for working within her community, and obtained a New York State EMT license with an aspiration to serve her Bronx neighborhood. She has several years of teaching experience through volunteer work for Reading Partners NYC, where she worked with elementary school students performing below grade level to achieve writing and reading goals.

Her artistic expression includes music, and singing in a gospel choir. Her artistry developed greatly over the last two years while working on two multimedia programs with Creative Art Works. In 2023, she took a leadership role in creating "East Harlem: El Barrio Diasporico," a multidisciplinary oral history of this vibrant neighborhood. Over the course of this CAW program, she gained experience in the visual arts, set construction, photography, videography, and filmmaking. In 2024, she helped to create a short documentary with CAW, further developing her experience in filmmaking. The film, entitled "Echoes of Inwood," is an oral history about this rapidly changing neighborhood in Upper Manhattan.
