About the Artist

William Zheng was born in America and lives in Manhattan with his parents. He is a sophomore, who attends a highschool in downtown Manhattan at Manhattan Early College School for Advertising. During his time there, he was introduced to the Character Design internship program sponsored by FunPlus and Creative Art Works. It was here where he first learned the many different words such as silhouettes, ¾ views, side views and more. William attended this program to improve his art skills and to just experience something new for once. Throughout the program, William learned about various ways artists define their characters and he is continuously improving.

Final Character Design

After countless changes to my character, I have decided to go with this design because it showed the peak of simplicity. I didn’t actually put any colors on my character but if I did, I would probably use black, grey, and white. This is because I think black, grey, and white truly fit the theme of the plot and are bland colors. Since the creation of my first draft, I have taken away the glasses and modified the shoes to make it look like a character instead of me in reality. I am satisfied with this design because although it may seem simple, it is one of my most detailed drawings I have ever attempted to create on my own. Throughout the process, I learned that simplicity can also be a form of creation.
