Silvano Spagnuolo Character Design
About the Artist
Silvano Spagnuolo
Silvano Spagnuolo was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, where he also attends high school as a junior. Silvano is inspired by the work of Hayao Miyazaki and Pendleton Ward, and some of his favorite pieces of animation have come from Studio Ghibli, Adventure Time, Over the Garden Wall, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Additional artists who have contributed to Silvano’s artistic development include Mitski and Heironymous Bosch. This is his first time taking part in an arts program in a professional capacity. Over the course of the internship, Silvano learned how shape theory influences character design and storytelling. Silvano would like to thank Alexandra Neuber for her patience and confidence in him, as well as his fellow interns for giving him positive support and always encouraging him to do his best.
Character Design: Fleischer
Work in Progress
Fleischer is a ghost who lives in the underworld where he aspires to be a comedian and perform for lost souls.
Final Art
One aspect of design I focused on was shape theory. Fleischer is mostly made of circles... while his wiggling limbs are disarming and distracting, making the character clumsy, awkward, and unsure of how to carry himself.
