Jaizi Abedania

Teaching Artist

Jaizi is a lens-based, mixed-media artist exploring concepts of identity, history, and migration through personal narrative. She has exhibited, taught, and practiced in New York, Brooklyn, San Francisco, and Seattle. She has spent much of her career in collaboration with artists and programs promoting accessibility to the arts and social-justice projects, particularly with youth in under-served communities. Jaizi has taught mixed media at the Brooklyn Museum and School of Visual Arts (SVA) and was a ColorLab Teaching Artist at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. She spent seven years teaching in-school and out-of-school time art at the secondary level, mostly in Northern California. In addition to her current work with CAW, she also teaches at Adelphi University on Long Island.

Jaizi holds an MFA in Photography, Video, and Related Media from SVA; a Credential in Art Education from Notre Dame de Namur University, in Belmont, CA; and a BS in Comprehensive Design, from the University of California, Davis. Her other interests include live performance, mixed-media installation, and skateboarding.
