Alexander Tiburcio Character Design Portfolio

About the Artist

Alexander Tiburcio is from the Bronx, NY. He currently lives in Fordham and is enrolled at Chelsea Career and Technical High School. He has an interest in art and animation. He just recently got into drawing. This is his first time working with Creative Art Works.

He gained interest in the character design after realizing that he rarely draws his own characters. He has learned how to use shapes to create characters and how to draw from silhouettes. He learned how to effectively use action lines. He has learned about both body and face proportions. He has even learned how to make storyboards.

Work In Progress: I started with an idea of a little girl who represents non malicious ignorance towards climate change and pollution. However, her first iteration had too many elements as I originally wanted her to represent climate change and pollution itself, so I eventually simplified her design. I am proud of the consistency of her hair and clothing while trying out different proportions, postures, and expressions.

Final Character Design: I went ahead with an idea I had in mind of making the thermometer on her shirt into a mood meter. I chose to give her purple clothing to complement her blue hair since they are analogous colors. I included other poses and expressions that are often seen in a child. I gave her a missing tooth to emphasize that she is a young child, and children are often connected to purity as well as ignorance.
