About the Artist

Catherine Chong is a student at Manhattan Early College for Advertising. She is 15 years old and their pronouns are she/they. Catherine picked up art when she was 12 years old, but then dropped it. She has attended art classes for three years during middle school and continues to take art classes online. Then picked it up again during quarantine because they were bored and needed something to do and deal with how everyone was forced to stay home for who knows how long. After picking it back up they have continued to do art since then. The reason why she chose to draw again is because one day on social media, she saw pretty men and handsome men, and then she thought, she wants to do this, she wants to draw them  the way they look. Then slowly she began progressing and improving her skills to draw booootiful butterflies. Something Catherine learnt in character design this year was how to draw more fluid poses, facial expressions, and most importantly that a character could have multiple designs to go with the idea. Catherine is very happy to be a part of the program and hopes to sell and make fan made anime products.

Sketch

I went with this design because not only did I want my character to resemble being a hospital patient I also wanted to give it a fantasy look too with the face mark. The last design was also too fantastical and it drifted from the original theme.

I went with warm colors for the clothes and a cool color for the hair to make the face pop out. The clothes are a warm brown mixture because I wanted to give him a warm and gentle look. The hair and the details on the face were cool colors to contrast the clothes from the face.
