Ayanna Awuku Character Design
About the Artist
Ayanna Awuku
Ayanna Awuku was born and raised in Staten Island, NY, and is currently finishing her last year at Curtis High School. Despite her lack of job experience in the art field, she has been drawing for over 11 years. Ayanna is quite comfortable drawing traditionally and digitally, though she is still becoming accustomed to using the various brushes each art program offers. For her digital works, she uses the 2.0 beta version Paint Tool Sai, an art program developed by Systemax Software Development.
While being an intern for Creative Art Works, she learned the fundamentals of character design, such as creating a clear silhouette and the importance of diversity in story and character background. For her character, Bethel, she has been inspired by ancient Greek culture, mythology, and hearing wonderful ideas from her fellow interns.
Character Design: Bethel
Work in Progress
I really enjoy seeing how I was able to convey my character’s personality through body language. The way Bethel moves her arms, accompanied by her facial expressions, sell her cheery and compassionate personality towards others, which are her dominant traits.
Final Art
Bethel also has a slightly childish side — she can be energetic or pouty.
