Nayellie Santana
Nayellie Santana is an 18 year old, born and raised in the Bronx who recently graduated from Manhattan Bridges High School. Although she has had no previous experience with CAW, she is expanding her knowledge to learn about multimedia and art. The Public Art Youth Employment program was a great opportunity for her to speak up on long-standing issues in her community. She is working on her photography and editing skills with the motivation to learn from others. Santana gives her best quality work when she works independently.
Nayellie is someone who seeks creative depth and liberation through writing, speaking and artmaking. During the youth apprenticeship, she drew connections between her love for her community in the Bronx and her environmental justice posters. Her neighborhood has seen destruction over the years and gradually became a dangerous place, but Nayellie has not given up hope. Instead, she works toward restoring the community and fighting for a brighter future for her people.
