Litzy Millan Character Design Portfolio

About the Artist

Litzy Millan is a senior at Chelsea CTE High School. She was born and raised in Brooklyn and this is her first ever job. She enjoys art museums, books, music and loves anime as well. Litzy first heard about the Character Design Program through one of her friends who was previously in it. She decided to join, ultimately because she knew that it would help her develop her skills and learn more on how to put her creativity to use. Numerous facets of art have been taught to her such as perspective, silhouette drawing, facial expression and iterative drawing. She thinks signing up was the best move she ever made. Not only does this program present her with a fresh opportunity, but also allows her to explore an area that has always been foreign to her and help her develop her sketching style. She believes that failure is part of the process. People who never fail, never try. You have to fail, you have to get it wrong to get it right.

With this image, I want people to see how I visualized my environment. The colors I choose which are more on the darker side represent the mystery and horror. When sketching this, I thought of the proportion and how I wanted the boat to be seen as big in comparison to the character Maris. When I saw how my environment turned out, I was proud that I was able to represent exactly what I was looking for: horror and mystery.

When coming up with my final character design, I had Maris already envisioned. I had an idea of the colors I wanted to use and the way I wanted her to look. I wanted a transformation to be done. A “before and after,” with the before being her beautiful side and the after how horrible she looks after society stopped caring. I wanted the “afte to show the bruises and cuts around her body, her discolored hair, and her eyes red and infected. I wanted“the “before” to show her as the most beautiful purple eyes ever and her unique figure and her beautiful black hair. I'm very proud of my final design and I can say it’s exactly what I envisioned.
