About the Artist
Thiago Alvarez lives in Queens, NY, and is a student at Information Technology High School. He has earned honors throughout his years in High School and has participated in programs that have helped him at a workspace. He participated in the SYEP at LaGuardia College to pursue arts.
He has been drawing since elementary and follows art as his passion. During the CAW’s Character Design program, he learned many new things about Character Design such as the use of silhouettes, storytelling, color theory, etc. He gains inspiration from many shows and movies. He one day aspires to be able to create an animated show/movie of his own in order to inspire many other upcoming artists.
Alex had been designed to have a more devious look, not deeming him as a hero. However, Alex was created this way in order to make the viewer believe he was a villain when in reality he's misunderstood and fights those who are corrupt.
Artist Statement
The final design of Alex had shown a more malicious side with contrast of thick and thin strokes, This use of his character's palette was in order to have colors that both matched and contrasted against each other. Alex’s final design of him constantly smiling as if he's up to no good is the foundation of his personality.
