About the Artist

Mia Castro

Mia Castro

Mia Castro is a sophomore from The Young Women's Leadership School of East Harlem. Mia has been involved in after-school activities such as figure skating, however, she indulged in her hobby of art in her first program. She joined the Japan Society’s Manga class which taught basic character design and anatomy. This is where she began to realize how important creating and drawing characters was to her. Mia then decided to apply for and join the Creative Art Works internship. While working under the Creative Art Works internship Mia was able to learn the importance of creating and being able to design a unique character.

Character Design: Ernest

Work in Progress

What I learned from our class is line variation, which helped me to make the darker lines on my character and show a balance of light and dark to show what the protagonist is going through.

Final Art

Even with his stance, I drew Ernest to convey how he is more to himself and tries to stay very unnoticed.
